How do I get a library card?
To get a YA library card, you must be at least 12 years of age. (Younger children get cards from the Children's Department; those individuals 18 and older get cards from the Adult Department).
To get a card made, just come to the YA Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of the library, and bring your School Student ID with you. The library card is free to get; however, if you lose your card, it will cost $1.00 to replace it.
How do I look up materials?
Easy! Use our Online Catalog. You can search by author, title, subject, keyword, and more. Click on 'Power Search' for more options, including narrowing your search to a particular item type (such as Videos & DVDs) or location.
How can I place a hold (reserve) on an item?
Use the Online Catalog. You will need to know your User ID (the 14-digit number on your library card, with no spaces) and also your PIN (you will have to ask a Librarian to get your PIN). Log in to the Online Catalog with your User ID & PIN; after doing so, when you look up an item in the catalog, you may place a hold on it.
Alternatively, you may send us an online request. As long as you have a card, and provide enough information for us to locate the correct item, we will place it on hold for you.
How can I request something the library doesn't have?
You can submit an online request for an item. You can also fill out a request form available at each Circulation Desk in the library, or speak directly to a Librarian. Items requested are are subject to approval and are not guaranteed to be acquired. Many items can also be obtained through InterLibrary Loan, and some may not be deemed appropriate material for the collection.
How do I renew my checkouts?
You can call the library at 785-623-4944 and a staff member will attempt to renew your items. You can also log in to the Online Catalog and renew your materials under your account. Items cannot be renewed if they have reached their renewal limit, or if another patron has requested the item be held for them. Also, if a patron has fines, they will not be able to renew without speaking to a librarian.
