Sunday 24 January 2010 at 1:16 pm Avatar: A Phenomenon  By Maryam Ogunbiyi

There seems to be a word floating around lately, you hear about it on the radio, see previews on the TV, here your friends post things about it on Facebook. What’s the word? Avatar! This phenomenal movie directed by Cameron, has become a huge success worldwide! It has now been on record for the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time. The highest grossing movie was Titanic, directed by Cameron as well. Some skeptics, who have yet to hit the movie theaters to watch Avatar, might be a little unsure of what to expect. They shouldn’t be skeptical about it at all! When you watch the movie, there’s no doubt in my mind that you will leave the movie theatre calling Cameron a genius. Cameron waited a long time for this movie to be produced, because he wanted technology to catch up with his imaginative ideas. The first thing you notice about this great movie are the great 3D effects that were incorporated into the movie. The movie draws you into the awesome graphics and you might even feel that you are on Pandora, the planet the movie takes place on, running around with people.  Speaking of people there are many stars that starred in this breath taking movie.

Zoe Zaldana, who recently starred in Star Trek, appears alongside Sam Worthington recently known for playing alongside Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation.  Not only does this movie have great stars, it also has very good music. Leona Lewis, a British singer, was chosen to sing the movie’s theme song!  This movie is power packed with a lot of action and suspense! It is so amazing to watch all the characters and animals come to life on the big screen. Animals such as the Mountain Banshee and the Direhorse will be featured in this amazing movie. The main characters and animals interact a lot with each other as portrayed in many of the scenes in Avatar. You will see flying creatures, gigantic dog-looking creatures, even things that look like something you might have doodled as a little kid! You will see the interactions between humans and Na’vi  (creatures that inhabit Pandora).  There is a big clash of differences between the humans and Na’vi in the movie. You will shed tears and rejoice alike after watching this phenomenon of a movie. Avatar is recommended for every generation and I personally think everyone will fall in love with movie. For the rest of us who have watched this movie, we are hoping for a sequel of Avatar in the future!
