YA Title Eliminator Challenge: FINAL ROUND

Wednesday 04 November 2009 at 1:10 pm We had some hiccups in our first time out in the tournament challenge business. But nevermind that . . . because the FINAL ROUND is here. Better yet, we need your help! Read both books, A Curse as Dark as Gold and Graceling, before the end of the month, then tell us which one you like better. We have plenty copies of both.

How do you tell us? Well, however you want. Send us an email. Talk to us directly. Leave a comment here. Write on our FB Wall. Etc. But there is only one vote per person. We will keep you honest and only count the votes that, well, count. We'll keep you updated here and in the YA Dept.

The Blind Side: Read the Book, See the Movie

Monday 02 November 2009 at 2:53 pm Watching football on Sunday some of you, Broncos fans at the very least, may have caught a lot of promotion for an upcoming movie called The Blind Side. The movie is about Baltimore Ravens first round pick Michael Oher and how he went from being homeless to, well, starting for an NFL team as a rookie. It stars Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Tim McGraw and Kathy Bates, and was directed by John Lee Hancock, who also made The Rookie (a great baseball movie IMO.)

But . . . the movie is actually based on a book, and, technically, only on part of that book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. Michael Lewis's book is a must for football fans as it examines how football has evolved since the introduction of The West Coast Offense and faster defenses. And guess what? We have it here for you to check out, before you see the movie. You can read a review of the book here.

See the trailer, get more info on Oher, and find more books you might like by clicking see more. see more

Photos: Murder Mystery Party

Monday 02 November 2009 at 11:02 am It was spooky. It was scary. It was a little whimsical. But whatever we used to describe it; it was still MURDER. Our second Teen Read Week Murder Mystery was Deadly Ever After, and featured some beloved storybook characters all trying to catch a murder, or, of course, clear their own names. Check out some photos of the cool costumes and maybe even catch a glimpse of the murderer.
